    About :

Another installment of Music Mondays comes by and I try to set it on a different community to get a chance to participate in #openmic. This week's topic is Emotion. And several ideas come to mind. The one which took the cake was remaking my performance of Sombra en los Médanos, a Venezuelan Waltz.

This piece is a classic of traditional music in my country. It's also one of those firsts songs in lesson for many instrument players.

The idea of emotion and music has such thing walls that one could not talk about one without the other. Music is something that calls forth emotions. I could tell it forces them out of you, but that wouldn't be right. Melodies and harmonies have an effect of the body and soul. They get you tuned to some primal forces of humanity and life. The result is a spring of feelings bursting forth. This fact tends to make difficult concentrating while playing or singing. That's another reason musicians practice a lot, to learn how to channel all these emotions.

But for the rest of us, we might plead guilty and let the emotion run rampant. Many if us have found ourself dancing or signing without a care in our homes to particular tunes. It is absolutely normal. Our ancestors must have done the same during the stone age and with more basic music. That code is written in the collective unconscious of humanity in the same way music is on the code of the world.

Stand up feel the emotion of the performance and how they affect your mood. It is a great exercise for music appreciation. It is also an excellent way to support each of the other content creators that put their soul into each entry for this wonderful initiative.

To fill in the technical facts, this song is a Venezuelan Waltz by composer Rafael Sánchez López. It has lyrics, however, I don't sing and let Embla do all the signing for me.

The last time I tried this was so long ago that I had trouble finding the post. Hive Open Mic is an interesting opportunity to try new formats for previous attempts. I always considered this 4-mandolin versión of a song was too trebly. Maybe if I had one instrument of each kind on the mandolin family the sound would've been better.

I hope my performance of soloist Venezuelan Cuatro is better than my precious attempt and that emotions run through you as I play like they do as I record this.

You never know how many attempts it takes to get something like this recorded.
