A City in Full Bloom? It happens here in Northern Thailand, every year in the first weeks of February, when Chiang Mai hosts its famous Flower Festival.
Parades, opulent floral displays EVERYwhere and just so much creativity, colour and a sense of beauty and abundance. It s good for the soul to simply wander for hours, eat some great Thai street food, watch a passing parade and bask in the feeling that everything has its time to bloom in its own way, and that diversity is a big part of beauty.
The festival is FREE and you won't need more than some change in your pocket for Thai streetfood yumminess and maybe a mango-sticky rice for dessert.
Ordinarily this festival is PACKED with Chinese tourists, but this year due to #coronavirus there were very few.
Always a delight to see the whole community out in force, many dressed in Thai traditional clothing and wearing fresh flowers in their hair.
Garden lovers? You'll need several hours to wander the displays and competitions of orchids, bonsai and exotic flowers.
Always a delightful weekend even after living here for 17 years, and it still makes me smile to hear the "oooh" and "aaahs" of first-time visitors.
Planning to come next year? You should think about it!
