Anne Porter Body Flow Series #16: My Competition Piece
To be honest, I cringe every time I watch this video. I have a long list of the things I would have changed in this routine. I was training Aerial Hoop for less than a year when I competed. I never had normal training or Aerial Hoops class and only learned through youtube and instagram.
However, looking back, I can't help but admire the courage I had to take the challenge of creating a piece and competing. I was juggling work and my small business with training. I remember several break-down episodes and self-doubt but I am very proud of myself for overcoming them. I was determined to compete not to win against other athletes but to challenge the inner voices in my head telling me I can't do it. (I wrote a whole article about it here.
My Training Routine Looked Something like this:
2 Months Before Competition:
Week 1: MWF Training, 3 hours each session - Exploring Tricks and Shapes
Week 2: MWF ; 3 hours each session - Finalizing Tricks and shape
Week 3: MWF ; 3 hours each session -Mastering my chosen Tricks and shape
Week 4: MWF; 3 hours each session - Mastering my tricks and shape
1 Month Before Competition:
Week 1: MWF: 3 hours each session- Mastering my floor works and other off-hoop choreography
Week 2: MWF: 3 hours each session -Combining whole routine
Week 3: MWF: 2 hours each session - Running the routine and polishing
Week 4: Wed & Friday: 1 hour each session - Practice run of whole routine, Dress rehearsals.
