As a singer, I was lucky enough to work under a music contract in Vietnam. My colleague-a violin player and I- performed pop songs in one of the hotels in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam.
One day, on a day off, we went to the Temple of Literature. This is one of the ctions of Hanoi, where the first Vietnamese university used to be located.Just at that moment, a concert of Vietnamese folk music was taking place there.
The performance was amazing. The appearance of the national Vietnamese instruments is quite unusual, and even more unusual is their sound. You can hear a part of this concert on this video.
Vietnamese are very fond of singing. When the girls-musicians were playing one of the tunes, our guide suddenly started singing along, it was funny.
An unusual wooden instrument played by a female soloist is called Trung. It consists of bamboo tubes of different sizes. The tubes emit sounds of different height. The short tubes have high sounds, and the long ones have low ones. This musical instrument is old.
Previously, peasants gathered after a working day and listened to the sounds of this instrument on vacation. Of course, with years, the instrument has changed: more tubes have been added, and now there are 48 of them. Due to this, the sound of the instrument has become richer.
They play trung with a special stick. Some musicians improve this stick and manage to extract two sounds at the same time.
In the next part I will tell you about another interesting Vietnamese folk instrument.
I wish eberyone a great day, good music and a sunny mood!
