    Greetings, Hive!

Today I bring another Pokémon Unite guide/build, and this time it's the turn of none other than the most famous yellow rat in the video game world and the most representative face of the entire Pokémon franchise: Pikachu. As expected, Pikachu has been part of the Pokémon Unite roster since the game's release, and while he has always been a fairly viable character, in game’s most recent updates he has received a couple of buffs that have been increasing his presence in the game's competitive scene.

So without any further ado, let's start!

    ¡Saludos, Hive!

    Pikachu

What can I say that hasn't already been said about Pikachu? This cuddly rodent is one of the most recognized faces worldwide not only in the world of video games, but also in anime and pop culture in general. Pikachu made its debut in video games in 1996 in the first generation of Pokémon, the Red and Blue versions; however its enormous popularity is due to the fact that it was the initial Pokémon of the anime's protagonist, Ash Ketchum. Its biology is based on that of an animal called "Pika", a relative of rabbits that inhabits North America and Asia, and likewise, the etymology comes from the combination of this animal name with the Japanese onomatopoeia "chu" that represents the sound made by mice. It is an electric-type Pokémon, and among its main characteristics is that it is capable of producing and storing large amounts of electrical energy in its cheeks and that it can conduct and discharge this energy through its tail.

In Pokémon Unite, Pikachu is a special ranged attacker, capable of inflicting huge amounts of damage to rival Pokémon - especially during the early game - and also of paralyzing them with its electric attacks. It performs ideally on the top line of the map, where with its ranged attacks it will be able to keep at bay those who want to score points in our base. His ideal partner will always be a defensive Pokémon that is positioned in front of him while keeping the distance with the rivals, and this is very important because although Pikachu has a lot of attack, it is quite fragile, and if we get into a fight or if we allow them to cut distance with us there will not be much to do. In general I think Pikachu is a pretty easy Pokémon to use, we just have to choose the combination of moves that we like and burn the enemies with electricity, I'm also quite fond of it because it was the first Unite License I chose and the character with which I learned to play.

    Build

    Shell Bell | Cascabel Concha

    shell bell.jpg

The first item for Pikachu is the Shell Bell, and being Pikachu a special attacker, this item fits him wonderfully because the Shell Bell restores a small amount of HP every time we hit a move and also, at level 20 it increases our special attack by 16 points. But the icing on the cake of this item is that it reduces the cooldown of our moves by 3%, perfect to keep us attacking and paralyzing our opponents.

    energafono.jpg

The next item is a rather peculiar one that doesn't work for all Pokémon, and thanks to its Unite Move, Pikachu is one of the few Pokémon that makes the best use of it. It's simple: the Energy Amplifier increases our attack by 21% while performing a Unite Move, but why does this item work so well on Pikachu? Well, you see, Pikachu's Unite Move is Thunderstorm, when using it Pikachu will summon a powerful lightning storm that will kill everything around us and thanks to the Energy Amplifier it will be boosted. In recent updates of the game the cooldown of its Unite Move has been reduced and if we add that with the 4% recharge of the Energy Amplifier we can constantly use this powerful attack to destroy everything in our path.

    Wise Glasses | Gafas Especiales

    1.jpg

Last but not least we have the Wise Glasses. There really isn't much to say about this item, its description says it all: it increases our special attack by 39 points and as a passive ability, it also increases our special attack by another 7%. A fairly simple but extremely useful item when it comes to maximize the damage of our yellow mouse, and as you can see, all items equipped for Pikachu are focused solely on increasing its offensive capacity.

    Moveset

    GIF-211224_094230.gif

As I said a few lines above, Pikachu's moveset is quite simple and with any combination we choose we can put up a good fight. However, my favorite combination is Electro Ball + Thunderbolt. The most valuable feature of Electro Ball (at least for me) is that once it selects a target, the ball of electricity will chase it until it hits it, so it is very good for finishing off targets with low health that want to escape, and in addition to this, it will do more damage the lower the opponent's HP and paralyze them. In the second place we have Thunderbolt, which, similar to Electro Ball, it will paralyze enemies when hitting, however the difference with the first one is that this is an area attack and we can select the place where we want it to hit. Regarding its Unite Move, Thunderstorm, as I already described when I talked about the Energy Amplifier, Pikachu will summon a very powerful lightning discharge that will fulminate everything in its area of effect, and there is not much more to say about it, do not hesitate to use it when there are many enemies together and especially during important fights, such as to beat Drednaw, Rotom, or Zapdos/Articuno.

Pikachu is a Pokémon that has recently received several buffs that improve its competitive performance, and although it does not usually play in professional tournaments, to play in solo (just as I do since I don’t have a team) it works quite well if we know how to equip it and mainly how to position ourselves in combat, also keep in mind that Pikachu works as a kind of support, its role is to attack from a distance and support our teammates over anything else, so it is common not scoring too many points during a match, the main objective is to help our team to score and clear the way for them. Its biggest disadvantage is that it is too fragile and does not have many escape options when cornered. Pikachu is often seen as a Pokémon for beginners, but at least I quite like playing with it, I find it quite fun and it is satisfying to win matches and electrocute enemies with it.
