WHAT IF BITCOIN GOES BEAR?

After seeing yet another leg down from Bitcoin to start off 2022, I wanted to take a moment to temper my own expectations and think through how all of the factors within the Splinterlands economy as well as the broader financial/crypto markets might play out.

This is not financial advice. I'm not an analyst or expert. Just a guy who makes music and loves tech, crypto, and games.

What I arrived at was that we may be approaching a major "consolidation period" within Splinterlands. When I say consolidation, I'm not talking only about the tokens, but about all of the game assets and the players involved. The Axie Infinity hype brought in many players who are not naturally gamers and were here to earn some extra money playing games. There's nothing wrong with that, but it also means that if rewards in the form of lower DEC price and issue rate happen, those who don't love the game for what it is may end up leaving.

And that's not a bad thing. There's no judgement here, people are free to go about interacting with Splinterlands as they see fit. But if Bitcoin continues it's downtrend or even just stays put for weeks or months, with the upcoming general sale potentially flooding the market we may just see all asset prices within Splinterlands fall. The consolidation period comes when those who plan to stick around for the long term start scooping these assets up at bargain prices.

Of course, I could be wrong and we are just an announcement away from Bitcoin hitting new all-time highs. But bitcoin has a history of taking the stairs up and the elevator down, so I'm not banking on anything saving the crypto markets in the short term.

My focus then will be to continue building out my deck, doing my daily rewards to win more cards to add to the collection, and building out more connections with the community as it truly is one of the most supportive and collaborative communites out there.
