Kind regards to the entire community.
In this video, the mathematical fallacy that 1 = -1 is explained in a didactic and entertaining way.
It should be noted that an error is being made from step two to number three using a property that is not valid in the set of real numbers, that is, there is a separation of roots of negative numbers as a multiplication.
Instead of having done that step, we had to use the definition of absolute value and we would have returned from where we started, that is, 1 = 1.
The definition of complex number and imaginary unit was used.
Being a complex number an expression of the form z = a + bi where a and b are real numbers and i is called the imaginary unit and is denoted as i = √-1, this being the solution of the equation x² + 1 = 0.
The correct definition that we should have used in the third step is the absolute value which represents the distance on the number line from zero to a negative or positive number, so the distance is always non-negative.
The notation of i = √-1 was first introduced by Leonhard Euler in 1777.
