Before the construction of the Iron Gates 1 Dam, the passage through the Danube's Boilers area, by big ships, was quite an adventure and it often took a big cargo up to 40 hours to pass through.
There were locals helping them, some were pulled by trains to get through, and tech wasn't there to help them, as it id nowadays. The area, as you will see in the video, is rocky, the width between the Romanian and the Serbian shore is narrow, and it was even narrower. Things changed though since 50 years ago.
Now, the tech is here to help the experienced captains, there's much room between the banks and it's all easier to handle. You don't need trains and villagers to get through this area. You don't have to be on a cargo ship to do that either.
You can do it on a 7-8 meters boat, or even smaller, and it's such a pleasure to be there. I've been passing through it for over ten times, and still go there when I have the chance. The cliffs, with the water biting the rocks are quite a majestic view.
If you don't believe me, watch my humble three minutes video and you should convince yourself I'm not lying.
Thanks for attention,
Adrian
