Since I saw this week's theme, I knew what song I was going to record, because "Nostalgia" is the name of one of my favorite romantic songs.

Ángel Canales is one of my preferred salsa artists, a singer with a very particular style, who gave his orchestra an avant-garde and innovative sound that broke with many paradigms at the time. He recorded a very free version, in bolero rhythm, of a very popular tango by the Argentines Enrique Cadícamo (lyrics) and Juan Carlos Cobián (music), but he gave it that particular sound of his style. It is precisely Nostalgia one of the songs that had the greatest impact on me by this New York salsa singer. Although I found this version with Canales' accompaniment on Youtube, I didn't want to follow his style in the interpretation, because it is unmatched. But the orchestration is so wonderful that I wanted to use it.

It is worth noting that the interpretation of the original tango has been erroneously attributed to Carlos Gardel, which is impossible, since the song was written the same year this singer and actor died. The confusion comes mainly because the interpretative style of the one who recorded it the following year (1936), was very similar, Carlos José Pérez, known as Charlo.

Desde que vi el tema de esta semana, supe qué canción iba a grabar, porque "Nostalgia" es el nombre de una de mis canciones románticas preferidas.

Uno de mis artistas preferidos en la salsa es Ángel Canales, un cantante con un estilo muy particualr, que le dio a su orquesta un sonido vanguardista y novedoso que rompió con muchos paradigmas en su momento. Él grabó una versión muy libre, en ritmo de bolero, un tango muy popular de los argentinos Enrique Cadícamo (letra) y Juan Carlos Cobián (música), pero le imprimió ese sonido particular de su estilo. Es precisamente Nostalgia uno de los temas que más me impactaron de este salsero neoyorquino. Aunque encontré esta versión con el acompañamiento de Canales en Youtube, no quise seguir el estilo suyo en la interpretación, porque es inigualable. Pero igual es tan maravillosa la orquestación que quise utilizarla.

Vale la pena señalar, que erróneamente le han atribuido la interpretación del tango original a Carlos Gardel, lo cual es imposible, ya que la canción fue escrita el mismo año que murió este cantante y actor. La confusión viene principalmente porque el estilo interpretativo de quien lo grabó al año siguiente (1936), era muy parecido, Carlos José Pérez, conocido como Charlo.
