Yesterday I told you about an extraordinary Venezuelan musician, Gonzalo Grau and at the end of the post I mentioned that he had his own very particular #challenge. It's about musical fragments that he produces for you to improvise and show your talents in Latin rhythms.
It is an extraordinary collection that I decided I was going to follow. So today I bring you the first piece. This was intended as a presentation for percussionists, as it is not built on the regular chords, but is an overlapping of notes, which makes the melodic intonation more difficult. However, I liked it very much and I thought it was excellent for a presentation.
It is a composition by Grau himself and the lyrics, of course, were written by me as an introduction. I hope you enjoy it!
To start with the first thing
My name is Ylich Orsini
I am not Mozart, Paganini
But in music I do my best
I come from Los Cañoneros
The music of Caracas
And here I am throwing firewood
To become a salsa singer
I sing this precise rhythm
To cheer up the dancer
I know I'm not the best
But my singing is sincere
Here there is no one who can resist
To this tasty tumbao (rhythm)
This is Candela Buena (good fire)
That Gonzalo Grau brings you
I want to thank
To all those who arranged
That in the parties of Caracas
They call me El Ruso (The Russian)
Here is El Ruso!
Pa empezar por lo primero
Mi nombre es Ylich Orsini
No soy Mozart, Paganini
Pero en la música me esmero
Vengo de Los Cañoneros
La música caraqueña
Y aquí estoy tirando leña
Para meterme a salsero
Canto este compás certero
pa animar al bailador
Sé que no soy el mejor
Pero mi canto es sincero
Aquí no hay quien se resista
A este sabroso tumbao
Esto sí es Candela Buena
Que les trae Gonzalo Grau
Las gracias le quiero dar
A todo aquel que dispuso
que en las rumbas caraqueñas
A mí me llamen El Ruso
¡Aquí está El Ruso!
