In recent months Venezuela has been subjected to an intense drought. However, today it rained heavily. I was very happy because really the lack of rain had brought increasing problems. Even so, that rain awakened in me a great nostalgia and a kind of sadness. I know there is no reason for it, but it did.

My mood therefore was not for very happy songs, on the contrary the song that came to my mind was this one, a song that I had never sung before.

It is a beautiful melody by one of our most expressive and beloved composers, mainly because of the beauty of his melodies and the poetry of his lyrics, Otilio Galindez (1935-2009).

It is entitled Pueblos Tristes (Sad Towns) and this is my participation in the Hive Open Mic, week 6.

    Lyrics ||| Letra

    Pueblos Tristes

    alumbrando pueblos tristes,
qué de historias, qué de penas,
    qué de lágrimas me dice.

    Sad Towns

What does the girl who piles and piles think,
what the grim reaper thinks of the old lady,
    what do chapel bells say
in its notes, so sad, they sound like complaints.

    And that moon that dawns
    lighting up sad villages,
    what stories, what sorrows,
how much of a tear it tells me.

At the bottom there's a one dime saint,
a candle that dies in dirty oil.
Beyond that, comes a dog that is pure bone
with barks of the hunger that God put in him.

    And that moon that dawns
    lighting up sad villages,
    what stories, what sorrows,
how much of a tear it tells me.
