It was a thing of joy to celebrate my friend and sister as she tied the knot yesterday traditionally. It was my first time of visiting Anambra state and due to the pending security issues, I had to stay indoors so I could have a feel of the area. I'm most importantly grateful that the occasion was smooth as I got to learn and see how the igbos do their marriage rights and customs although there was something I couldn't quite comprehend.
I really couldn't understand why after the family has received dowry and bride price would still give the bride a glass of palmwine asking the bride to go into the crowd to find/bring out her husband when he had already presented himself before the family. I mean the family knows the man and his people very well but then it's their traditional rite and I'm glad to have witnessed it. I also got to taste a few of the igbo meals like anugbo soup(bitter leaf), abacha and ukwa.
