I am trying to keep up my #drumming practice and may start a course in the new year to try and move forward. For today I found another backing track on Youtube. This is a slow blues in 6/8 time, which makes a change from 4/4.
I have only recently got my left foot doing anything when I play, so I incorporated some high-hat action in this. I am playing pretty much straight on the beat without too much rhythmic variation. That is enough to be coping with for now. I just tried to use the other drums and cymbals to add variety.
I am gaining a lot of respect for drummers. Keeping the rhythm even through one song is hard.
My generic drum pad was going through my big monitor speakers to get a better sound than the built-in ones manage. There is a big difference.
I was filming this on my phone and it cut out before the end of the backing track. I thought it had failed to record, but was glad it got something. Five minutes is more than anyone wants to hear of me drumming anyway.
Here is the backing track I used:
I have also been playing some djembe with my swing band. Not a traditional instrument for that, but it makes a nice sound.
It would be good to see some other contributions to the drumming community.
Rock on!
