It was the first time I saw this wonder of nature up close, after leaving the San Roman Lighthouse and waiting for the sun to make its fiery presentation at 11 a.m. we headed towards the salt flats, a sea of crystallized salt.

Era la primera vez que veía de cerca esta maravilla de la naturaleza, después de salir del Faro de San Román y esperar que el sol hiciera su ardiente presentación a las 11 a.m nos dirigimos hacia las salinas, un mar de sal cristalizado.

It was supposed to be at 9 or 10 a.m. the perfect time to contemplate the pink color of the salt flats due to the sun's rays, but that day dawned cloudily and we decided to wait until a few hours to see the miracle. This place is the main source of income for the locals because they work in a company that uses salt to process it and sell it to the whole country.

Sé suponía que a las 9 o 10 de la mañana era la hora perfecta para contemplar el color rosado de las salinas producto de los rayos del sol, pero ese día amaneció nublado y decidimos esperar hasta unas horas para ver el milagro. Este lugar es la principal fuente de ingresos de los lugareños porque trabajan en la empresa que aprovecha la sal para procesarla y venderla a todo el país.

I wanted to observe their work and talk to someone who could explain the process to me, but we arrived very late and there was no one working in the area where we stopped.

With a strong wind traveling at high speed, the group decided to walk around, taste, and touch the foam that creates the crystals and then large rocks of salt. I was not aware that there were machines that would use the water where the salt works to produce foam and accelerate the process of salt crystals.

Yo quería observar su trabajo y hablar con alguien que me pudiera explicar el proceso, pero llegamos muy tarde y ya no había nadie trabajando en esa área donde nos paramos.

Con un viento fuerte que viaja a gran velocidad el grupo decidió caminar, probar y tocar la espuma que crea los cristales y luego grandes rocas de sal. No tenía conocimiento que existieran máquinas que usarán el agua dónde está la salina para producir espuma y acelerar el proceso de cristales de sal.

We walked on a large expanse of the frozen salt sea because it was neither land nor ice. When you touch it, it leaves a sticky sensation in your fingers and if you taste the salt it stings your throat. It is a beautiful place to take pictures and experience something different from nature.

Almost all people take salt rocks as souvenirs, but what they don't know is that the rock melts as time goes by and if the temperature changes faster. I took as a souvenir a medium-size piece that a beautiful boy gave me I did not want to take anything, but he insisted and I could not refuse his beautiful gesture, because it is a gift that they sell and this child wanted to give me as a gift.

Caminamos sobre una gran extensión de mar congelado de sal, porque no era tierra ni tampoco hielo. Al tocarlo deja una sensación pegajosa en los dedos y si se prueba la sal llega a picar en la garganta. Es un lugar hermoso para tomar fotografías y experimentar algo distinto de la naturaleza.

Casi todas las personas acostumbran a llevar de recuerdo rocas de sal, sin embargo lo que desconocen es que la roca se va derritiendo a medida que pasa el tiempo y si cambia la temperatura más rápido. Yo llevé de recuerdo un pedazo mediano que me regaló un niño hermoso, en realidad no quería llevarme nada, pero él insistió y no pude rechazar su bello gesto, porque es un regalo que ellos venden y este niño quiso darme de obsequio.
