Los Simpson es la serie de televisión animada con más referencias a la navidad en sus episodios especiales. Uno de mis grandes favoritos es "Miracle on Evergreen Terrace". En este episodio, valoramos el verdadero significado navideño mientras recibimos algunas bofetadas (literalmente) por parte de los guionistas. ¿A qué estamos acostumbrados? Las historias donde prevalece el amor y la reconciliación en la nochebuena abundan, pero para esta ocasión, veremos el lado más descarado de las tradiciones americanas.

"Miracle on Evergreen Terrace" es un episodio especial para navidad en el que, de manera muy directa, se nos habla del materialismo humano y lo que representa para las celebraciones de fin de año. El Argumento nos lleva a la visión de Bart, quien comete un accidente con el árbol de navidad y debe mentir para no destruir las ilusiones de su familia. No obstante, la mala actuación del pequeño conduce a un sinfín de acontecimientos que empeoran la difícil situación. Y aunque la mentira surtió efecto, el remordimiento de Bart lo llevará a evaluar su propia conciencia, y el sentido paradójico de los regalos y la bondad de las personas.

Porque sí, Bart comprenderá que la bondad de las personas está sujeta a duras condiciones. De hecho, la perspectiva caritativa es una de las más tocadas durante el episodio, al menos desde un ángulo abstracto. Sin regalos, los Simpsom sienten un vacío irreparable, como si eso significara para ellos el fin de la existencia. No necesitaron la visita de un fantasma para entender que, al parecer, la felicidad sin un buen obsequio no es posible. Después de todo, la humanidad se ha acostumbrado a velar por lo físico, por lo tangible, por lo adornado con lucesitas o empacado en esas bolsas con burbujas.

Por suerte, siempre habrá un alma caritativa en la calle que pueda ayudar a las almas afligidas, ¿o no? Aquí aparece el tesoro en el mensaje de "Miracle on Evergreen Terrace". Las personas apoyan y ayudan, sí, pero guiados por un instinto deshonesto, nada acorde a la bondad verdadera. El escenario de la mentira está presente, lo sé, porque no hay nada peor que ser engañado o estafado por abusadores que se aprovechan la nobleza, como diría aquella línea de diálogo del Chapulín Colorado.

Aun así, aun así, los bienes materiales no deberían importarnos; pero no es algo que puedan tolerar los amigos y vecinos de Los Simpson, quienes, tras la mentira de Bart, deberán rendir cuentas en una navidad amarga. No es hasta que, en el despojo de todo lo que valora esta familia, llega la verdadera riqueza a los ojos de Marge Simpson. No hay momentos para llorar, ¿para qué? Los Simpson nos dan una lección invaluable, un milagro en el que la felicidad prevalece mientras el amor familiar perdure.

The Simpsons is the animated television series with the most references to Christmas in its special episodes. One of my big favorites is "Miracle on Evergreen Terrace." In this episode, we appreciate the true meaning of Christmas while getting some slaps (literally) from the writers. What are we used to? Stories where love and reconciliation prevail on Christmas Eve abound, but for this occasion, we will see the most shameless side of American traditions.

"Miracle on Evergreen Terrace" is a special episode for Christmas in which, in a very direct way, we are told about human materialism and what it represents for the end of the year celebrations. The Plot takes us to the vision of Bart, who commits an accident with the Christmas tree and must lie so as not to destroy the illusions of his family. However, the little boy's poor performance leads to endless events that worsen the difficult situation. And although the lie worked, Bart's remorse will lead him to evaluate his own conscience, and the paradoxical meaning of gifts and the kindness of people.

Because yes, Bart will understand that the goodness of people is subject to harsh conditions. In fact, the charitable perspective is one of the most touched on during the episode, at least from an abstract angle. Without gifts, the Simpsons feel an irreparable emptiness, as if that meant the end of existence for them. They didn't need a visit from a ghost to understand that, apparently, happiness without a good gift is not possible. After all, humanity has become accustomed to watching over the physical, the tangible, the adorned with lights or packaged in those bubble bags.

Luckily, there will always be a kind soul on the street who can help troubled souls, right? Here the treasure appears in the message of "Miracle on Evergreen Terrace". People support and help, yes, but guided by a dishonest instinct, nothing in line with true kindness. The scenario of lying is present, I know, because there is nothing worse than being deceived or scammed by abusers who take advantage of the nobility, as that line of dialogue from Chapulín Colorado would say.

Still, even so, material goods should not matter to us; but it is not something that the friends and neighbors of The Simpsons can tolerate, who, after Bart's lie, will have to be held accountable on a bitter Christmas. It is not until, in the stripping of everything this family values, that true wealth arrives in the eyes of Marge Simpson. There are no moments to cry, why? The Simpsons give us an invaluable lesson, a miracle in which happiness prevails as long as family love endures.
