Week number two of the garden journal, We got quite a few things to cover this week. So to start I will go with thanks to everyone who checked out last week.
The plan for this is to document my outdoor garden as it expands so will the post and video so it may turn out to be quite the long post by mid-summer đ¤Ŗ.
Last week I was saying we had some snow and we got a heatwave, well turns out the plants really enjoyed getting a small layer of snow and then hit with 30c. This past week tho has been back down to the normal temps we see here in Canada.
The first garden that is all lettuce has been doing really well actually. The buttercrunch and the salad bowel are starting to show what kind of plant they are. That is a good thing as I can now pull any leftover weeds ( Not the good weed) that I missed when planting the lettuce seeds.
If you move a little more you can see the plants that I started indoor are really taking off after the snow and heat. I will also mention we have had so much rain this week almost every day I know that helps the lettuce grow.
The second garden bed I have is stuffed mostly with spinach, The idea is for me to grow more than I need so I can freeze it as we eat so much that if I bought it all I would be broke just from thatđ¤Ŗ.
This is really starting to come up and show signs of new leaves. I am going to have to start figuring out how many I got and space them out some more.
The squirrels and chipmunks in this pot are the worst of my whole garden. They like to come up and that is hard to stop. I had an idea of putting wire just above the soil to stop them from coming up but it is hard to find anything when we can't go to the stores here in Ontario.
Last week I never talked about the berry bushes we had started, To be honest, I almost forgot I even planted one.
The blueberry bush is really starting to show some signs of life with a nice green stem starting to show. My wife wasn't sure we should even get this to take in the soil cause of the spot I planted it. The dogs also love to run through the garden and I thought for sure they would take it out.
The strawberry I am not sure what kind it is but I know it is really enjoying the spot it is in. This winter/spring it sent out more babies and now has 3 plants coming out of the soil.
I am planning to go and get a couple more strains of strawberry to add as I keep reading and hearing that they taste better if you can get them to mix.
The other thing I was planning to do with the strawberry is try and get it to climb into another pot so I can pot one and move it inside for the winter in the big indoor grow
