Weekly Gardening Journal - Week 1 Lettuce and greens

Well, I am so glad that we are inching closer and closer to the summer here in Canada. That can only mean one thing really and that is finally time to start the outdoor garden again.

I started to slowly clean mine up a couple of weeks back and then we got hit with some more snow and to be honest I was scared we might have a long winter after that but that was not the case as we just got a massive heatwave hitting 25-30c all week.

During the week I have been getting a bit more of the garden up and running with some minor clean-up. I don't like the remove too many weeds and hay(i use to cover my soil in winter) as I know insects like bees and butterflies lay dormant in these areas.

To start I have a whole bed that is going to only have lettuce in it tins spring. We being plant-based eat a lot of salad greens and even more so come summer. Hell, my oldest boy will grab the heads and just eat it like that.

In the second bed, it is a raised one I planted spinach and more lettuce along with some kale. I am not sure if I put these out a little too early or not but you can see some have started to show life.

I have a few more beds I am working on this weekend plus any others that will again be getting some work done waiting for the TOMS and may other veg to go out as it gets warmer.
