Every year the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride takes place. This is a classic motorcycle ride for bikes older than 30 years, or newer bikes in a certain style. This is an annual world wide event, that takes place on the same day everywhere.
The DGR aims to collect money for men's health.
You can read more about the DGR here.
This year my bike of choice was a 1963 BMW R69S. We were a small group of riders that came together in Pretoria to ride to the start point in Johannesburg.
Below you can see it takes team work to adjust the helmet's strap!!
The start point was just behind The Mall of Africa, there is a large open space with paving and a nice lawn that could accommodate a large number of people.
We arrived early but there was already quite a number of bikes present and they kept roling in!!
The building is the PWC (Pricewaterhouse Coopers) office building, which has a very unique shape!!
For the midpoint we rode to the Museum Africa where a group photo was taken. It was quite a show with traffic cops, with sirens blaring, directing traffic and ensuring everything went smoothly. We had lots of people looking on as we progressed.
The end point was at a nice open area, with a bar area and some food stalls. The photo above shows our little group that rode together from Pretoria. Note that the riding atire is not your normal biker wear as it is a requirement of the event to dress dapper.
They also had some live entertainment, with the young lady and her saxophone, keeping everybody entertained.
I got myself some nice food at the stall below, which specialised in chicken.
I ordered the burger pictured on the right, which is called the Italian Job, I don't know where the name come from, but I must say it stated even better that what it looks like.
Off cause after the end, comes the very end, a few of us went to another restaurant after we rode back to Pretoria, for a last Beer, after which we said our farewells. We had a very successful and enjoyable day, spent in the company of good friends!!
I hope you enjoyed the post and that you have a wonderful day!
