Suarez is the first born Miami and 43rd mayor of Miami who was elected in 2017. Francis Suarez, the mayor of the U.S. city of Miami, Florida, has been discussing with the crypto community about putting a small percentage of the city’s treasury reserves in bitcoin. The mayor of Miami has also been discussing using bitcoin and other cryptos to pay property taxes and city fees.
City commissioners voted late Thursday night at the request of Mayor Francis Suarez to study the use of the cryptocurrency and look for a vendor to help with transactions. Should the commission approve a contract down the road, employees would have an option to receive all or part of their salaries in Bitcoin, and the public would have a Bitcoin option while paying for city services.
Suarez, who has marketed Miami as a burgeoning tech hub, said the vote represented a step in the right direction.
The Miami News Herald once said Francis Suarez is energetic, progressive, pro-business, but deeply religious. Might I add Francis is also a family man saying that he wants to make the world a better place for his two daughters, two granddaughters, wife, two kids, and I love my family and every decision he makes is to make the world a better place.
Cryptocurrencies is the greatest opportunity to level the wealth gap. In the next several decades we will witness generational wealth being transferred to those that own digital currencies. So it only makes sense for Francis to move in the direction of paying city employees in Bitcoin.
