Orc Genocide | Orcs Must Die 3 - Episode 1 + First Impressions [Pusen Plays]

It's time for a new series! This game is quite different from anything else I've done a let's play of so far. There's been a lot of doom and gloom so far so let's liven it up with some wacky humor and endless killing of orcs. Let's play Orcs Must Die 3!

Orcs Must Die is a series of games about killing orcs. Obviously. It has elements of both tower defense and third person shooters. The basics of the gameplay is that a horde of orcs will invade each level through a door and try to get to a rift. If they get to the rift you lose a life and if you lose enough lives you lose the level.

That means we have to stop them and we do so by placing traps from a huge and expanding arsenal. There's spiky floor traps, fire traps, ceiling thumpers and a whole bunch of more traps. You'll see me utilizing a plethora of these in the episodes to come although I end up sticking with a core set of traps for the most parts.

I love this series. I played the first two games many years ago and I had a lot of fun with them. This is the kind of game where the sequels end up being pretty much just more of the same but that's fine for a game like this. It's not meant to tell a tale of epic proportions or re-define what gaming is. It's just meant to be mindless fun and that's exactly what it is.

This is the kind of game that is pleasing, relaxing and stressful at the same time. It's pleasing to see the traps rip through a bunch of orcs, it's relaxing to place traps and plan out a strategy and it's super stressful when the game throws you curve balls that you need to deal with on the fly. All of these together equals a lot of fun!

There's also a huge variety of enemies which means you have to plan each level differently. Well that and the fact that every level is laid out differently. For the most part they send small puny orcs with no special abilities but every now and then you get a tanky ogre or a super fast kobold that sets off all your traps making life easy for the standard orcs. They can now just walk right on through so you need to deal with them yourself.

That leads us to our arsenal of weapons. We get to choose between two different heroes that each has their unique base weapon. I went with the male character that has a pretty cool bow. We can however equip ourselves with different kinds of weapons and trinkets to enhance our own powers as well as our traps. Pretty cool!

As mentioned already this game is pretty much exactly like the old ones when it comes to gameplay but it does have some added game modes. There's war scenarios that offer a set of new traps and a lot more orcs than we usually deal with. We're talking in the thousands here. There's also some sort of rogue like game mode if I've read it correctly but we're gonna have to get back to that later.

The game features a campaign which is what this series is gonna focus on. Depending on how well I like the game by the end I might explore the post-campaign and some of the extra game modes. We'll just have to see.

I'm also gonna try and post more consistently. Work is crazier than normal this semester so when I get home from work I mostly just sit down to do some curation and then jump on Final Fantasy XIV. That's such a shame when I have a whole bunch of content just waiting to be uploaded. I'll try but I won't promise anything.
