    Voidtrain; First impressions

We're taking a quick poke at Voidtrain today! It's a neat little game I picked up from the Epic Games store, and is currently in an Early Access state.

Voidtrain is a survival crafting game taking place (so far as I've seen) entirely upon a... uh... 'dimension hopping train'? I guess? I can't think of a better way to describe it. It seems like at least some of the game - if not all of it - is set in these little... pocket worlds? I believe they're described as the space between worlds, or perhaps the space between two points on the same world. I'm unclear on some aspects of the storyline / world here.

It's a fun little game though from my tiny amount of play. We build new workbenches with scraps we reclaim from the broken landscape of the void, and thus unlock further advances we can make. It looks like later we can expand the size of our train too, which is pretty cool.

This first bit of play is a lot of testing mechanics. Floating through the void is a unique experience, and our tether to the rail platform is something that takes a little getting used to. Collecting goods makes for a lot of stopping and starting the trolley, which I think has the potential to become pretty repetative... but we'll see. I plan to play this one more - if only to help answer some lingering questions I'm left with about the actual game.

Atmospherically, the game is amazing. There's some great sound work, and the broken chunks of worlds poking into the void - or comprising it - are super interesting.

I don't have a ton more to say here on this one, at least, not right now. It's a fun little game from the first ~30 min or so, and I plan to give it more time to see if we can a) expand our train further, & b) go through another portal. I think as far as long-term play, a lot hinges on if there are more unique voids or extra worlds for me to travel through. I assume there will be, because it feels like there's got to be more to the game than the single area we were in to begin with.. but we'll see!
