A mediados de los años 1800 la etapa del ajedrez fue bautizada como la era romántica de este deporte, su máximo exponente, Paul Morphy era la esencia pura de cómo dar jaque mate a cualquier costo, sacrificaba piezas a más no poder, en su partida contra Paulsen en 1857 reventó por completo el enroque intercambiando Damas en el tablero y además con una precisión grandiosa.

En este punto Morphy (negras) obliga a las blancas a cambiar las Damas en la primera fila horizontal, además, está latente la jugada Ac7 volviendo una total carnicería la posición blanca, no serviría de nada quitar la Dama blancas porque entonces las negras daría jaque mate en pocas jugadas por eso el cambio es obligado.
