PukuGreetings to all my pukufriends. I present you this video recorded at PukuEstudio titled "Hive Music School: Initiative my path in music and my passion for the guitar. by Nahupuku. My first contact with music was at a very young age. My parents collected vinyl records (Lps) and also a lot of music was made in my house. My father had a folklorical music band in Guárico, and he played the maracas and the venezuelan cuatro and I also had an uncle, who played the harp.

Also my grandfather who was a doctor and military man, played the guitar and he liked to play it for his patients. And he used to come to my house on weekends and play here many songs from his time (mid 20th century). And then when he passed away, he left me his guitars, and my mother took me to class in "venezuelan cuatro" lessons at the MusiYama school in Caracas with Professor Pedro Luis, in the early nineties, and then I switched from the Venezuelan cuatro to the guitar. I wanted to play something that was related to rock and at the beginning I was very enthusiastic about the drums and saxophone but I couldn't play them for various reasons, then I finally decided on the guitar and several neighbors who were and still are to this day, professional musicians like Gustavo Orea and Daniel Rivas, taught me some classes, plus some guitar books that were here in the house and with that I ended up complementing.

In the nineties, I had a teacher named Pablo Mendoza, who currently lives in Spain and has a music learning academy there, and in those years he gave lessons at home, and it was where I learned to play both the electric guitar with classes dedicated to jazz and rock: Van Halen, Frank Gambale, Frank Zappa, Al Di Meola, Pat Metheny, Joe Pass, Allan Holdsworth, Steve Ray Vaughan, Jimmy Hendrix, Steve Howe, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen y Ritchie Blackmore, among others. And classical guitar: Fernando, Sor, Francisco Tárrega, Bach, Matteo Carcassi, Mozart, Beethoven, Heitor Villa-Lobos, Antonio Lauro, Andres Segovia y Alirio Díaz among others. At the beginning of the decade of the 2000's, I did some workshops with Aquiles Baez, following the tradition of the popular guitar that I had already started in the Bigott Music Foundation.

After finishing my university studies in Bachelor of Arts at the Central University of Venezuela, I entered in 2008 in a kind of conservatory for adults called "Academia de Música Juan Sebastian Bach" located here in the city of Caracas and they taught me music theory and aspects that I did not know with Professor Montilla. Then I went to many music clinics and workshops. I saw jazz guitar classes and mode´s with guitar player Hugo Fugett, I also attended clinics of very important international bassists and drummers who came to the country, as well as I gave a guitar clinic online in 2008. And in the year 2010, I took a class on reading sheet music while playing drums with Professor Daniel Mujica. So I have been in the music world since the early nineties. I also studied Music History at the university, in the Arts degree with professors Laura Pita and José Peñin and ethnomusicology with professor of anthropology Ronny Velásquez.

As for the tips and recommendations that I can comment on for those who want to learn music, the first thing is perseverance and dedication to the instrument. It is extremely important to study. I have been taught by people who already have a lot of experience and years of playing music and teaching, that factor has been very important for my career as a professional musician, especially as a guitarist. But I also advise you to learn about other instruments if you are going to be in a band playing with other musicians, because it is important that you know who are the virtuosos or the idols of the other musicians admires in your band or group you belong to, because it is a way to also learn about the other musicians you are sharing and playing music.

It is also very valuable to practice your instrument constantly, 7 or 8 hours per day. Of course, when you can practice and exercise your ear, play with other friends, with other musicians, the "guataca" also develops your agility to play and also to take out by ear many songs, for example television commercials, songs that are playing on the radio in the background, in my case, with the guitar I sit down to listen and to take out whatever sounds: the melodies and harmonies. Mi primer contacto con la música fue desde muy pequeño. Mis padres este coleccionaban discos de vinil (Lps) y también se hizo mucha música en mi casa. Mi papá tenía un conjunto musical de música a Llanera en Guárico, y el tocaba las maracas y el cuatro venezolano y también tuve un tío, ya fallecido quien tocaba el arpa.

También mi abuelo materno quien era médico y militar, tocaba la guitarra y que le gustaba tocarla para sus pacientes. Y venía los fines semana a mi casa y tocaba aquí muchas canciones de su época, mediados del siglo XX. Y después, cuando el falleció, me dejó sus guitarras. Luego mi mamá me inscribió en clases de cuatro venezolano en la escuela MusiYama en Caracas con el profesor Pedro Luis, a principios de los años noventa, y después pase del cuatro venezolano a la guitarra. Yo quería tocar algo que estuviese relacionado con el rock y estaba al principio muy entusiasmado con la batería y el saxofón pero no pude tocarlos por diversos motivos, entonces me decidí por la guitarra finalmente y varios vecinos que eran y siguen siendo hasta el sol de hoy, músicos profesionales como Gustavo Orea y Daniel Rivas, me enseñaron algunas clases, más unos libros de guitarra que estban aquí en la casa y con eso terminé de complementar.

En la década de los años noventas, tuve un profesor llamado Pablo Mendoza, quien actualmente vive en España y tiene una academia de aprendizaje músical por allá, y en esos años el daba clases a domicilio, y fue donde aprendí a tocar tanto la guitarra eléctrica con clases dedicadas al jazz y al rock: Van Halen, Frank Gambale, Frank Zappa, Al Di Meola, Pat Metheny, Joe Pass, Allan Holdsworth, Steve Ray Vaughan, Jimmy Hendrix, Steve Howe, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen y Ritchie Blackmore, entre otros. Y de guitarra clásica: Fernando, Sor, Francisco Tárrega, Bach, Matteo Carcassi, Mozart, Beethoven, Heitor Villa-Lobos, Antonio Lauro, Andres Segovia y Alirio Díaz, entre muchos otros. Ya empezando la década de los dosmiles realicé unos talleres con Aquiles Baez, siguiendo la tradición de la guitarra popular que ya había iniciado en la Fundación Musical Bigott.

Posteriormente luego de culminar mis estudios universitarios en Licenciatura de Artes en la Universidad Central de Venezuela, entré en el año 2008 en una especie de conservatorio para adultos que se llama "Academia de Música Juan Sebastian Bach" unicada aquí en la ciudad de Caracas y me enseñaron teoría musical y aspectos que desconocía con el profesor Montilla. Luego fui a muchas clínicas y talleres musicales. Vi clases de guitarra de jazz y modos con el guitarrista Hugo Fugett, y también asistí a clínicas de bajistas y baterístas muy importantes de carácter internacional que asistieron al país, así como también yo dí una clínica de guitarra vía online en el año 2008. Y en el año 2010, recibí unas clases de leer partituras tocando la batería con el profesor Daniel Mujíca. Así que he estado en el mundo de la música desde el principio de la década de los noventas. Tambíen estudié Historia de la Música en la universidad, en la carrera de Artes con los profesores Laura Pita y José Peñin y etnomusicología con el profesor de antropología Ronny Velásquez.

En cuanto a los tips y las recomendaciones que puedo comentar para los que quieran aprender música primero es la constancia y la dedicación al instrumento. Es sumamente importante estudiar, recibir clases de gente que ya tiene mucha experiencia y años tocando música y enseñando, ese factor ha sido muy importante para mi carrera como músico profesional, sobre todo como guitarrista. Pero también aconsejo que aprendas de otros instrumentos por si vas a estar en una banda tocando junto a otros músicos, ya que es importante que sepas quienes son los virtuosos o los ídolos que los otros músicos de tu banda o agrupación a la que perteneces admiran, porque es una manera acerca de también con los otros músicos con los que estás compartiendo.

También es muy valioso realizar la práctica constante de tu instrumento, 7 u 8 horas al día. Por supuesto, cuando puedas practicar y ejercitar el oído, tocar con otros amigos, con otros músicos, la "guataca" también te desarrolla muchísimo la agilidad al tocar y también sacar por lo oído muchas canciones, por ejemplo los comerciales de televisión, canciones que están sonando en la radio de fondo, en mi caso, con la guitarra me siento a escuchar y a sacar lo que sea que suene: las melodías y las armonías.
