Post WW1, Germany had a severe hyperinflation. Their native currency, the Papiermark, had notes denominated up to 1 Trillion.
This all happened in a short space of time after the catastrophic event of the First World War.
There are some parallels to COVID as financially speaking we are just as broke then as we are now.
