July retrospective freewrite!

It’s been some time since I did a freewrite here on @hiveio. Not a whole lot of photography the last few weeks, which feels a little weird. I’ve mentioned this in previous blogs, but I’m focusing on video and VLOG content. When the quarantine first became a reality we’d all have to face, I decide that transitioning to a more video-centric publisher made a lot of sense. It’s taken me just over five months, but I’m finally happy with my investments and my gradual understanding of how to use it all to VLOG.

As most of you have seen, I’ve been doing the EUC VLOG’s. For those who aren’t familiar, EUC stands for electric unicycle. Some of the best money I’ve ever spent on something without a reason other than to bring joy in my life. My plan was to ride this through town while doing VLOG commentary. One thing I’ve been putting off for years is a simple illustration of myself [as a zombie], to accompany the VLOG’s. Now that I have the EUC safety equipment, I decided to add the helmet to the drawing.

These videos have been a commitment I’ve been trying to make for myself. During the old days on the old blockchain, I used to love @exyle’s VLOG’s. Once a week, he’d walk in to his backyard and say “Hello. Steemit. This is @exyle. Good morning.”. I wanted something along those lines. A stream of consciousness where I can talk about Hive and where I fit in to the Hive community. The persistence of the EUC VLOG’s hasn’t been easy. Some set backs, as you’ll see here where I ate shit hard while on a ride with @nickcdavis. I got back up, though.

I just turned forty and I got a birthday reading by @tarotbyfergus. I had a really fucked up dream the night of my birthday where I came across a dead baby. I needed some mystical insight and as it the cards read, it was what I already knew. I was careening towards a new chapter in my life where I would leave behind the notoriety and recognition as a photographer, to pursue something that offered no acknowledgement. Something I wouldn’t even be good at. I’ve been ready for that for a while, though.

I’ve been missing my old life. I stumbled across this selfie in the dirty mirror in the basement of @caffetto. I probably took this around October of last year. I’m glad @caffetto is even open in any capacity, and I’ve seen friends and familiar faces like @mada, @treighc and quite a few others, but the fatigue is setting in. I just want to sit at those damn tables and play MTG like I used to. It’s tough for everyone, so I know I’m not alone in how I’m coping. In some ways, I’m better positioned than most, so I’ll stop complaining.

Things at @eos.detroit are going SO well! Honestly, I never thought I’d leave my freelance life. I always said that if I would, it would have to be for a company that allowed me to work without creative limitations and that’s exactly what is making this such a pleasure. I just finished an emblem logo for WAX Office of Inspector General, but August, you’re really going to see my full potential as the Creative Director for @eos.detroit. Not just because of the freedom they’re giving me, but because of my enthusiasm to be working with such a stellar team.

I suppose that’s enough for an evening ramble. @vermillionfox is making me a belated birthday sushi dinner now that we have all the ingredients. I’ve been writing this on and off for a couple days, so it feels great to finish it and get it published. I’m struggling with some color on an @eos.detroit project, so the rest of the night, I’ll be watching video tutorials. Learning. That’s still one of the most rewarding things in my life.
