Rockman X3 es el tercer juego de la serie Rockman X, lanzado en 1995 para la consola Super Nintendo y posteriormente adaptado a PlayStation en 1996. El juego sigue las aventuras de Rockman X, un robot con libre albedrío que lucha contra los Mavericks, robots rebeldes que amenazan la paz mundial. En esta entrega, Rockman X se enfrenta a un nuevo enemigo, el Dr. Doppler, un científico que ha creado una utopía para los Mavericks y que planea usar un virus para controlar a todos los robots.

El juego mantiene la misma jugabilidad que sus predecesores, basada en la acción, la exploración y la adquisición de nuevas habilidades. El jugador puede elegir entre ocho niveles diferentes, cada uno con un jefe final que le otorga a Rockman X una nueva arma al ser derrotado. Además, el juego introduce algunas novedades, como la posibilidad de controlar a Zero, el compañero de Rockman X, en ciertas partes del juego. Zero tiene su propia arma, una espada láser llamada Z-Saber, que le permite atacar de forma más rápida y potente que Rockman X.
