In the correct method of shamanic teaching, the nagual never fully reveals a technique or item of occult knowledge. Some part of the teaching is always withheld so that the apprentice can advance to it by perspicacity and persistence, thus making it his own achievement, not something derived externally, dependent upon the teacher.
