HIVE OPEN MIC #183 (ENG/ESP): Hasta la Vista / Goodbye - "She's Only Sleeping" (Original Song)

Hello everybody on Hive and especially the Hive Open Mic Community! My name is Jasper and I'm writing (and singing) to you Cape Town in South Africa!

Welcome to Week 183 of the Hive Open Mic Challenge. The theme for this week is the is “Hasta la Vista”! Is this supposed to be a week of songs from the Terminator soundtrack? That is probably the only place that English speakers like me have heard the phrase before!

The direct translation for this Spanish phrase is “Until the View”, but it actually means “Until I see you again” or basically “Goodbye”!

For those of you who don’t know, I’ve decided to alter my Three Tune Tuesday posts to be based around the Hive Open Mic theme of the week, and how I would go about tackling it. In that post, I suggested three cover songs that would suit the theme well, and you’re welcome to borrow any of the ideas if you still want to take part in the Hive Open Mic this week!

The suggestions were:

• “Leaving on a Jet Plane” by John Denver
• “Goodbye My Lover” by James Blunt
• “See You Again” by Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth

However, for my own entry this week, I’d like to take off my cover hat and present to you an original song I have written about how even the final “Goodbye” might not turn out to be the last “Goodbye” after all. It is called “She’s Only Sleeping”, and it is one of the softer, sadder, more delicate pieces I have written.

In my mind, it is a song about a parent comforting a child. Even in my own mind it has sometimes been a beloved pet that has passed away, while at other times it has been a grandmother. I think it is good that I leave that ambiguous and let each person who hears it decide for themselves. For many older people it could be about their own mother I suppose!

Bienvenido a la semana 183 del desafío Hive Open Mic. ¡El tema de esta semana es “Hasta la Vista”! ¿Se supone que esta será una semana de canciones de la banda sonora de Terminator? ¡Ese es probablemente el único lugar donde los angloparlantes como yo hemos escuchado la frase antes!

La traducción directa de esta frase en español es “Hasta la vista”, pero en realidad significa “Hasta que te vuelva a ver” o básicamente “Adiós”.

Sin embargo, para mi entrada de esta semana, me gustaría quitarme el sombrero de portada y presentarles una canción original que escribí sobre cómo incluso el “Adiós” final podría no ser el último “Adiós” después de todo. . Se llama "She's Only Sleeping" y es una de las piezas más suaves, tristes y delicadas que he escrito.

En mi opinión, es una canción sobre un padre que consuela a un niño. Incluso en mi mente a veces ha sido una querida mascota la que ha fallecido, mientras que otras veces ha sido una abuela. Creo que es bueno dejar eso ambiguo y dejar que cada persona que lo escuche decida por sí mismo. Para muchas personas mayores, ¡supongo que podría tratarse de su propia madre!
