Los Inundados / The Flooded - By Hely Orsini (1972)

La primera vez que escuché a Mercedes Sosa fue en Berlin el año 1970, ciudad en la que vivíamos mis padres, mi hermano y yo. En cierta ocasión fuimos mi mamá y yo a visitar a unas amigas de origen argentino, la hija de la señora de la casa había escuchado que a mi me gustaba cantar, así que sacó un LP y me puso a la ya famosa en esa época, Mercedes Sosa "La Negra".

Nunca la había escuchado y me impresionó mucho su potente voz. De ese LP solo recuerdo una canción que me gustó mucho llamada "Los inundados".
Ya yo me hallaba canturreando en varios actos del colegio y a donde me invitaran, así que decidí aprenderme esa canción, pero copiar la letra de una grabación fue una odisea, muchas palabras no las entendía, no estaban claras para mi y no sabía si estaban bien dichas, pensaba que así era como se hablaba en Argentina. Copiar letras de discos o cassettes en esa época de verdad que era como una hazaña, a veces había que repetir un pedacito de la canción muchas veces para saber qué decía la letra.

Lo cierto es que me aprendí mi canción y me la compañaba yo con mi guitarra, la cual tocaba un poco.
En esa época me invitaban mucho a cantar en actos, quizás porque era una chica de 15 años que "charrasqueaba" su guitarra y su cuatro y cantaba con mucha energía.

Las cosas de la vida.
Hace aproximadamente unos 10 años me contactó un chileno que venía de Berlín y traía un pequeño paquete para mi, cuando lo abrí no lo podía creer! Eran unas grabaciones hechas de manera informal con unos amigos el año 1972 en Leipzig, antes de despedirnos de Berlin y viajar rumbo a Moscú, y para mi fue como un shock escuchar varias de las canciones que yo cantaba y me acompañaba en esa época, era increíble! La verdad es que eso me produjo una gran emoción y me trasladó a esa maravillosa juventud que viví en Alemania.

Ese gran regalo me lo envió un amigo alemán con quien ahora mantengo contacto y que fue quien hizo la grabación para tenerla de recuerdo.

Dentro de esas canciones está incluída "Los inundados", así que decidí hacer este pequeño video con alguna foto de la época.

Hace un par de años, ya con la tecnología que tenemos a la mano decidí buscar la letra de la canción para ver si lo que yo cantaba tenía algún sentido, y debo decir que hay frases donde no tenía ni idea de lo que decía, palabras que en ese momento no tenían mucho sentido para mi, pero de todas formas lo que me aprendí, así lo canté.

Lo más importante para mi en toda esta historia, es que descubrí y admiré por siempre a esa maravillosa cantante, intérprete latinoamericana Mercedes Sosa, pero sobre todo, que en esa época me sentía feliz cantando "mi versión" de "Los inundados".

La canción fue compuesta por Guiche Aizemberg y Ariel Ramírez (ambos argentinos) y se editó en el disco "Yo no canto por cantar" de Mercedes el año 1966.

Aquí les dejo este pequeño-gran recuerdo de mi vida.

The first time I heard Mercedes Sosa was in Berlin in 1970, the city where my parents, my brother and I lived. On a certain occasion my mother and I went to visit some friends of Argentinean origin, the daughter of the lady of the house had heard that I liked to sing, so she took out an LP and played me the already famous at that time, Mercedes Sosa "La Negra".

I had never heard her before and I was very impressed by her powerful voice. From that LP I only remember one song that I really liked called "The Flooded". I was already humming it at various school events and wherever I was invited, so I decided to learn the song, but copying the lyrics from a recording was an odyssey, many words I did not understand, they were not clear to me and I did not know if they were well said, I thought that was how they spoke in Argentina. Copying lyrics from records or cassettes at that time was really a feat, sometimes you had to repeat a piece of the song many times to know what the lyrics said.

The truth is that I learned my song and I accompanied it with my guitar, which I played a little.
I was often invited to sing at events, perhaps because I was a 15 year old girl who "charrasque" her guitar and cuatro and sang with a lot of energy.

The things of life.
About 10 years ago I was contacted by a Chilean who came from Berlin and brought a small package for me, when I opened it I couldn't believe it! They were some recordings made informally with some friends in 1972 in Leipzig, before saying goodbye to Berlin and traveling to Moscow, and for me it was like a shock to hear several of the songs that I sang and accompanied me at that time, it was incredible! The truth is that it gave me a great emotion and took me back to that wonderful youth I lived in Germany.

That great gift was sent to me by a German friend with whom I now keep in touch and who was the one who made the recording to keep it as a souvenir.

Among those songs is included "The Flooded", so I decided to make this little video with some photos of that time.

A couple of years ago, now with the technology we have at hand I decided to look up the lyrics of the song to see if what I sang made any sense, and I must say that there are phrases where I had no idea what it said, words that at that time did not make much sense to me, but anyway what I learned, so I sang it.

The most important thing for me in all this story, is that I discovered and admired forever that wonderful singer, Latin American interpreter Mercedes Sosa, but above all, that at that time I felt happy singing "my version" of "The Flooded".

The song was composed by Guiche Aizemberg and Ariel Ramirez (both Argentinians) and was released in the album "Yo no canto por cantar" by Mercedes in 1966.
