¡Hola!

Hello! I am very happy to be able to participate in this round #3. Despite a very stressful week and a busy Friday, I was able to sit down and play the piano a bit. I think my tired face shows but the important thing is to make music that relaxes everything.

Between the two options that came to my mind for this round, I decided on this super classic of blues and r&b, Hit The Road Jack, by the master, Ray Charles. The song itself is very short and therefore with repetitive verses. For this reason, I wanted to give it a touch of my own by adding an improvised solo.

Something important to emphasize is that I played it in the original key. I was watching some piano arrangements on video and most people played it in A minor, I play it in G flat minor, along with the blues scale to improvise.

As a curious fact, it was very common for blind pianists, as in the case of Ray Charles, to play chords or progressions with the black keys, since it was easier for them to guide themselves by touch and know where to place the fingers themselves without making mistakes. The same happens with another genius like Stevie Wonder, most of his songs are in flat ke

Something that I also remember a lot is a biographical film in which it was talked about how he had lost his sight, his history with music, and the success he had in those years. It is very interesting to see it and if you have not seen it, I recommend that you see it and learn about the history of this great rhythm and blues musician.

I enjoyed being able to improvise a bit with this song. It's one of those songs that have always accompanied me and playing it on piano is very cool. Just let yourself go by the swing and that catchy chorus of Hit The Road Jack. See you soon!
