Getting creative with bubu dress, made with love for my mum❤

Hope we all had a splendid weekend, It's another interesting week, looking forward to all your awesome creations as well.

Last week, I got a call from my mum, she has an event to attend this weekend and wanted me to make her a bubu dress, wondering what a bubu dress means In case you don't know, it's a name we give to bogus/loosely fitted long dresses, they come in different patterns and style, and are very comfortable to wear. They are elegant wears that can be worn by both young and old, my mum particularly loves loose fitting dresses, especially from her waist downwards if it's going to be fitted, it either has to be a peplum blouse or a maxi dress as it is perfect for her body shape, knowing how to dress to fit your body shape is so important, as a mum of five children, her mummy tummy that she is always proud of makes her distance herself from body con dresses.

To make this dress, I decided to use a popular traditional fabric known as 'adire' or Kampala, It usually comes in cotton form, but recently it's been made with a polythene-like kind of material, its lighter compared to cotton, I think the idea is to make the wearer feel more comfortable with any design they decide to make, especially bubu dresses.

Without further ado, let me take you through the making process, I also uploaded a video form of the making process, you might want to check it out.

To begin with, I drafted its front and back pattern, The front has a v-neckline, and the body of the dress is shaped like a butterfly

Next, I joined both front and back by the shoulders,

To design the neckline, I cut out a strip of satin fabric, which I sewed around the neckline,

Continuing, I cut out this box also with the satin fabric, I almost fixed it to the chest area, before deciding to add some trimming fir more glam, you can see the expected difference.

Finally, I cut cuffs out of the satin fabric, joined them to the main dress sleeves, joined the dress by the sides, and hemmed it

And here is the beautiful final look. Beautiful isn't it?
