As stated by Axl Rose (vocalist of Guns N' Roses) in an interview, the song “Don't Cry” is actually about a triangular relationship between Axl, Izzy Stradlin (ex guitarist of Gnr), and a woman they love. Therefore, the woman finally decided not to choose anyone because she wanted to protect Axl and Izzy's feelings. That's what inspired Axl to write the song "Don't Cry."

The song itself is written as if from the woman's eyes. So simply the song Don't Cry is about a woman who leaves the man she loves (Axl and Izzy), because the woman thinks that it is impossible for her to love the two men and is trapped in a love triangle. In this song, the woman seems to be talking and advising the two men she loves (especially Axl) not to be sad and cry.
