Hello friends of Hive and the QSounds community, it is an honor to be here again but this time responding to a cool challenge that came from our dear friend @mipiano, someone we all know and respect, not only for the professional she is in her instrument and for her extensive knowledge in music, but also for being a motivator par excellence and a great friend to all the musicians who make life in Hive Blog. It should be noted that the idea comes from a conversation between her and the master @ylich, if you want to know more details I leave you the link to her post at the end of this challenge.

In my case for this challenge I have to answer to my dear friend @rosana6 who was the one who mentioned me in her post to continue with the dynamic. But relax, it's just a challenge hahaha, if I stop playing the guitar, possibly it would be for the drums or as 2nd option the violin, however, the instrument with which I will do this challenge, will be the "Tambourine".

Talking a little about my beginnings in music, I must say that it was thanks to my father that my interest in playing guitar arose; my father in his teenage years learned to play thanks to a teacher who had a group whose specialty was playing boleros, tangos and popular music.

When I was studying at the university was when my interest in music was awakened, since, by that time, early 2000, many rock bands came to fame and the movement became so big that it became globalized and directly influenced the culture of each country. So it was then that I first started with the acoustic guitar and later with the electric guitar, which would finally lead me to form my first musical group with which I recorded 2 demos and 2 singles in acoustic version.

That said, let's start the challenge:

Hola amigos de Hive y de la comunidad QSounds, es un honor estar nuevamente por aquí pero esta vez respondiendo a un reto bien chévere que surgió de nuestra querida amiga @mipiano, alguien a quien todos conocemos y respetamos, no solo por lo profesional que es en su instrumento y por sus amplios conocimientos en música, sino también por ser una motivadora por excelencia y una gran amiga con todos los músicos que hacemos vida en Hive Blog. Cabe resaltar que la idea surge de una conversación entre ella y el maestro @ylich, si quieres saber mas detalles te dejo el enlace a su post al final de este reto.

En mi caso para este reto debo responder a mi querida amiga @rosana6 quien fue quien me mencionó en su post para continuar con la dinámica. Pero tranquilos, es solo un reto jajaja, si dejara de tocar la guitarra, posiblemente sería por la batería o como 2da opción el violín, sin embargo, el instrumento con el cual haré este reto, será la “Pandereta”.

Hablando un poco de mis inicios en la música debo decir que fue gracias a mi padre que surgió el interés de tocar guitarra; mi padre en sus años de adolescente aprendió a tocar gracias a un maestro que tenía una agrupación cuya especialidad era interpretar boleros, tangos y música popular.

Cuando yo estudiaba en la universidad fue cuando despertó mi interés por la música, ya que, para esa época, inicios del 2000, salieron a la fama muchas bandas de rock y el movimiento se hizo tan grande que se globalizó e influyó de forma directa en la cultura de cada país. Así fue entonces como primero empecé por la guitarra acústica y posteriormente con la eléctrica, lo que me llevaría finalmente a formar mi 1era agrupación musical con la cual grabé 2 demos y 2 sencillos en versión acústica.

Dicho esto, iniciemos el reto:

1. Take a photo with a musical instrument you DON'T play. /
1- Hazte una foto con un instrumento musical que no toques.

2. Write an anecdote about how you managed to come to that instrument and/or why you have chosen that one.

This instrument I had it saved since last Christmas, although I would have liked to bring another one to the challenge, it was a little complicated because I do not have near me any place related to music, nor do I know anyone who had at hand an instrument like the violin, for example, which as I said before would be an option to learn to play without any doubt.

The tambourine is known as an instrument of accompaniment and time marking, which usually stands out when it is played; I acquired it last Christmas, because in these dates where Christmas Eve is approaching, it is widely used in the singing of Christmas carols and in a very special tradition for Colombians (it is also done in Venezuela and Ecuador) called "La Novena de Aguinaldo".

Although it is an instrument that is not very attractive, when it is played in this type of traditions, it usually has prominence and although it is not believed beyond having well developed our musical ear, the tambourine deserves technique for its execution, it needs good dexterity in the hands.

2- Escribe una anécdota sobre cómo has conseguido llegar a ese instrumento y/o por qué has elegido ese.

Este instrumento lo tenía guardado desde la navidad pasada, aunque hubiese querido traer otro al reto, me quedaba un poco complicado porque no tengo cerca algún lugar relacionado a la música, ni tampoco conozco a alguien que tuviera a la mano algún instrumento como el violín, por ejemplo, que como dije anteriormente sería una opción para aprender a tocar sin duda alguna.

La pandereta es conocida como un instrumento de acompañamiento y de marcación de tiempo, que suele destacar cuando es tocado; la adquirí la navidad pasada, debido a que en estas fechas donde la noche buena se aproxima, se utiliza mucho en el canto de villancicos y en una tradición muy especial para los colombianos (se hace también en Venezuela y Ecuador) llamada “la novena de aguinaldo”.

Aunque sea un instrumento que no tenga mucho atractivo, cuando es tocado en este tipo de tradiciones, suele tener protagonismo y aunque no se crea más allá de tener bien desarrollado nuestro oído musical, la pandereta amerita técnica para su ejecución, se necesita de buena destreza en las manos.

3. Write some funny or interesting facts about that instrument, anything you think can make us understand better and learn in an interesting way about it. Or you can explain how the instrument works, how it gives the sound, parts of it, it is up to you.

The tambourine dates back to the time of Mesopotamia and Egyptian civilizations, then in the Middle Ages, it became popular throughout Europe. The tambourine is a hand percussion instrument. Research indicates that it was basically used in religious ceremonies. As an interesting fact, the great Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, was one of the first composers to add this instrument to his musical works.

The tambourine belongs to the family of idiophone instruments, that is to say, those that use their own body to emit sound. It also belongs to the percussive membranophone instruments, which are those that use a drumhead, leather or skin to emit their sound by means of blows, either by hand or drumsticks. The tambourine within these classifications is also part of the frame drums, when the diameter of the sounding drumhead is greater than the depth of the resonating box.

To better understand what I said, I present to you by means of a graph the parts of the tambourine:

3- Escribe algún dato curioso o interesante sobre ese instrumento, cualquier cosa que creas que pueda hacernos entender mejor y aprender de forma sobre él. O puedes explicar como funciona el instrumento, como da el sonido, partes del mismo, eso lo decides tú.

La pandereta data de la época de Mesopotamia y las civilizaciones egipcias, luego en la edad media, se popularizó por toda Europa. La Pandereta es un instrumento de percusión de mano. Investigaciones indican que se usaba básicamente en ceremonias religiosas. Como dato interesante el gran Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, fue uno de los 1eros compositores en agregar este instrumento a sus obras musicales.

La pandereta pertenece a la familia de los instrumentos idiófonos, es decir, aquellos que usan su propio cuerpo para emitir el sonido. También pertenece a los instrumentos membranófonos percutidos, que son aquellos que usan un parche, cuero o piel para emitir su sonido mediante golpes, ya sea de la mano, o de baquetas. La pandereta dentro de estas clasificaciones también forma parte de los tambores de marco, a esto se refieren, cuando el diámetro del parche sonoro es mayor a la profundidad de la caja resonadora.

Para entender mejor lo dicho, te presento por medio de un gráfico las partes de la pandereta:

In the first instance we have the bow, which can be made of metal or wood (my tambourine is made of wood), then we have the essence of the instrument which are the rattles, which are made of metal; and finally we have the drumhead or membrane which is the percussive part of the tambourine.

En primera instancia tenemos el arco, que puede ser de metal o madera (mi pandereta es de madera), luego tenemos la esencia del instrumento que son los sonajeros o sonajas, que son de metal; y finalmente tenemos el parche o membrana que es la parte percusiva de la pandereta.

The tambourine has several techniques for its use, then, I leave you an explanatory video by a musician / specialist of the Vic Firth brand, where he shows us in a didactic way how to make a good execution of this instrument:

The first song I will share with you is a very cool one, it was written by Elton John and covered by Taron Egerton for the soundtrack of the movie "Sing" one of my favorite movies of all times. In it we can hear the tambourine from the beginning and its sound can be easily appreciated throughout the song:

The second song I bring you is from one of the bands that got me into music, one of the most famous alternative rock bands of the 90's, I'm talking about the fabulous Gin Blossoms, who even though they stopped releasing albums, they still play their classics today:

And the third band that I want to present is legendary in the world of rock; it is Stone Temple Pilots and their most emblematic song called "Plush" played in a presentation they did for MTV Unplugged in 1993:

This is the culmination of this fabulous challenge that besides being educational is very entertaining because it also brings us closer to different musical tastes chosen by those who participate.
