Genesis 4:7 KJV
If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
It is a good thing to offer sacrifice but Cain's sacrifice was not accepted because what Cain did was not good.
1 John 3:12 KJV
Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous.
In the sight of God, Cain was evil. That was why his sacrifice was not accepted. The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination unto God.
Proverbs 15:8 KJV
The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord : but the prayer of the upright is his delight.
Cain himself was unacceptable to God, that was why his sacrifice was not acceptable.
It is not about the amount of what we give that is important but we ourself must first be accepted by God before our offering can be accepted.
The first thing is for us to offer ourselves to God by acknowledging God in our heart and submitting to God.
