Approximately 18 years ago, I wrote a song under a tree at a park, in the Parisian suburb, it was called Fine.
The song at the time, wasn't meant to be anything special, and it became with time my favourite song. Funny to think, that it was the first time I was happy with a song I wrote, and it helped me realize that maybe, in a near future, I could have my first album.
I recorded a first studio version in France, in Paris around 2007. The drummer was Sebastien Drummeaux (who became a singer later on), and two of the best keyboardists in the world came to record on a fender rhodes, and an electric piano.
Cedric Hanriot, who just started his career as a jazz pianist accepted to play on my track, I was ecstatic.
After doing the French TV show in 2009, something in me told me to go record my first album in South Africa, where I ended up recording more than my first album, and spent 10 years there.
I also recorded a second version of "Fine", with this time a nihilistic approach to the song, and some amazing trumpets played by Marcus Wyatt, a killer bass by Carlos Mombelli.
In retrospect, I lost a little bit of the essence of the song, by letting such personnalities improvise on my song, changing its core.
I still enjoy the result:
