Hive Music Festival - Week N°29 - Round 2. Bass Cover of Tobechukwu. [ENG-ESP]

Hello respected musicians of the Music Zone community. It's always an honor being here cos there are so many experienced musicians in here which I respect their style of music so well. They have a way of delivering their music mastery to the audience and it is that no matter how many times I listen, getting tired in a jiffy won't be a thing.

Hola respetados músicos de la comunidad de Music Zone. Siempre es un honor estar aquí porque hay tantos músicos experimentados aquí que respeto mucho su estilo de música. Tienen una manera de entregar su maestría musical a la audiencia y es que no importa cuántas veces los escuche, cansarse en un santiamén no será nada.

In Africa, Nigeria precisely, there's a style of music popularly known as highlife music. This music is specifically about incorporating the melodies from musical instruments with native songs. Highlife music is played in occasions like Traditional marriages, funerals and in church services. Though other occasions do play this kind of music but the above mentioned first two places are where it can frequently be heard.

En África, en Nigeria precisamente, existe un estilo de música conocido popularmente como highlife music. Esta música se trata específicamente de incorporar las melodías de los instrumentos musicales con canciones nativas. La música highlife se toca en ocasiones como matrimonios tradicionales, funerales y servicios religiosos. Aunque en otras ocasiones se reproduce este tipo de música, los dos primeros lugares mencionados anteriormente son donde se puede escuchar con frecuencia.

This highlife music is what inspired me to learn how to play the bass. It teaches instrumentalists core discipline while on stage. There are times a bass player will be on a particular bassline for a couple of minutes without doing any riffs and runs. This is to teach the bass player how to maintain his role during a gig. Though we young musicians find this style of play to be boring, the experienced musicians will always tell us to stick to our role.

Esta música highlife es lo que me inspiró a aprender a tocar el bajo. Enseña la disciplina básica de los instrumentistas mientras están en el escenario. Hay momentos en que un bajista estará en una línea de bajo en particular durante un par de minutos sin hacer riffs ni corridas. Esto es para enseñarle al bajista cómo mantener su rol durante un concierto. Aunque a los jóvenes músicos nos parece aburrido este estilo de interpretación, los músicos experimentados siempre nos dirán que nos apeguemos a nuestro papel.

Imagine a bass player leaving his role as a bass player during a groove to do what the guitarists should do. This will leave a vacuum in that gig at that time of switching. It's not like it is bad to be free and express oneself during a gig, but there are times riffs and runs kind of become noise. This is when it is too much. All of these are the advice I got from an experienced musician. So I've been trying my best to stick to my role when I should and switch when it is necessary.

Imagina a un bajista que deja su papel de bajista durante un ritmo para hacer lo que deben hacer los guitarristas. Esto dejará un vacío en ese concierto en el momento del cambio. No es malo ser libre y expresarse durante un concierto, pero hay veces que los riffs y las corridas se convierten en ruido. Esto es cuando es demasiado. Todos estos son los consejos que recibí de un músico experimentado. Así que he estado haciendo todo lo posible para mantener mi rol cuando debo y cambiar cuando es necesario.

Since this is an international community, I decided to share with us one of the native songs from a tribe called Igbo in Nigeria. The song is titled Tobechukwu meaning Praise God. This song was sung by Nathaniel Bassey and Mercy Chinwo. Both are Nigerian gospel artists who have taken their music to international level.

Como esta es una comunidad internacional, decidí compartir con nosotros una de las canciones nativas de una tribu llamada Igbo en Nigeria. La canción se titula Tobechukwu que significa Alabado sea Dios. Esta canción fue cantada por Nathaniel Bassey y Mercy Chinwo. Ambos son artistas de gospel nigerianos que han llevado su música a nivel internacional.
