Greetings Gamers
This weekend I have been playing a lot of Vanguard -Saga Of Heroes on the VGOEmulator server.
You can find more info on this project here.

In this post, I want to discuss harvesting and look at the Northern Barbarian-themed starting area.
This race of Barbarians are called Varanjar. The inspiration for this starting area appears to be the nordic Viking world.
Varanjar start their journey on the continent of Thestra , this is one of 3 continents in the game.Thestra is the continent most influenced by traditional European high fantasy. This continent is home to Varanjar Barbarians, Half Giants,Dwarves, High Elves ,Halflings,Thestran Humans and Vulmane (Wolfmen)
In the video above we are playing a Varanjar Warrior named Konan T Barbarian and checking out the initial harvesting quests.
As the video opens we find our Warrior sitting by the fire in this cozy little log cabin.
Heading outside we find ourselves in a lovely little village in a mountainous pine-forested area.
I decide to climb onto the cabin roof to get a better look at our surroundings.
One of the coolest things about this game is that the world is totally seamless. There are no zones,Thestra is one giant content, it's truly quite an impressive feat of game development. From here we can walk in any direction and find many interesting quest hubs and dungeons.
I will cover exploration , questing and dungeons in future posts, for now, I want to show of the harvesting system.See this pine forest behind our Warrior? It can all be cut down.
In this game, we get 4 sets of equipment that can all be equipped at the same time. We have our adventuring armor and weapons, crafting gear, harvesting gear, and diplomacy gear.
With our rusty axe and harvesting gear equipped, we are ready to cut down some trees.
To start harvesting we approach the tree with our axe equipped and click on it.Notice the progress bar in the topleft hand corner. As this bar ticks down we start to gain resources,in this case, some sapling logs. Group harvesting is possible here to. If another player comes to harvest the same resource you will each gain more resources in a faster time which means no competing for resource spawns.
When the progress bar reaches zero the tree falls with some very satisfying sound effects and a slight ground rumble. Easily the most impressive wood-gathering animation I have ever seen in a mmo.
This NPC allows us to change our harvesting profession.
We can choose 2 harvesting skills from quarrying, mining, lumberjacking, skinning, or reaping.
Let's take a look at quarrying. This allows us to smash rocks to obtain stones and gems. Metal ores are harvested with the separate mining skill.
First of we need to equip a stonemason hammer which we can buy from Randro here.
Now we just head over to some rocks to find a small mineral cluster to start smashing.
As our quarrying skill increases, we will start to harvest more stones per harvest and have an increased chance to find rare gems.
Im eager to see how far I can progress in each of the professions and what sort of resources can be found in the higher tier of the game. In a separate post we will look at crafting.I have started some of the initial crafting quests on my Dwarven Blacksmith and found the crafting system to be really elaborate and detailed, more so than in any other MMO I have played. As soon as I get my head around the whole process and manage to craft some nice items I will share my finds here.
For now lets leave Konan outside this beautiful little village in the mountains chatting with Shield Kao about the finer points of Varanjar Barabrian life.
Until next time ,may the gods bless your day!
