Greetings Travelers
Since its Halloween I thought I would take you guys on a quick virtual tour of Scotlands most haunted pub!
This video is a couple of mins footage of me wandering the maze's of the Banshees Labyrinth. This pub in Edinburgh allows you to use its free cinema to show movies. This night I had booked the cinema to show the classic Hammer film "Scars of Dracula"
If you find your self walking the streets of Edinburgh at night see if you can find this place. Its on Niddry street which is small street that connects to Edinburgh's Royal mile not far from The North Bridge area.
Its kind of hard to miss this pub if your in the area when its dark. The front of it is lit up like it's Halloween 24/7 . The colour scheme and window decorations make it feel like the set of Bettlejuice.
This is the main entrance ,this corridor leads to main bar on the left and the free cinema at the end of the corridor.
The pub is set out in a sort of Labyrinth maze with rooms covering three floors two of which are below street level.
These vaults are some of the oldest parts of the city. The poorest of people used to live in these underground corridors. Thieves ,alcoholic's, prostitutes' ,body snatchers etc. I love the lighting and spooky atmosphere down on this level.
Heading up from the underground we find ourselves back at the free cinema. This cinema runs from 7pm until 3am showing 3 free movies each day.
As I mentioned at the start of this post they also let you arrange your own movie screenings at no extra cost you just need to bring the films you want to show. For the footage in the video above I thought it would be cool to have a classic Hammer Horror movie playing. The footage you see in my video is from "Scars Of Dracula".
As the movie played several people wandered in a sat down to watch the film. This was a pretty cool experience ,showcasing an old Horror movie near Halloween and gathering a small audience in Scotland's most Haunted cinema! You can see a short part of the film in my video to get some idea of how spooky it is down here.
This bar has some of the coolest cocktails in Edinburgh , they all cost £5.50 and have Horror Themed Names.
I guess there is a members club where you can get reduced prices.
This cocktail is "Dracula's Bite" It is made with Rum ,Malibu and Cranberry Juice and has that redness of theatrical movie blood. Its probably my favourite and the tastiest of all the cocktails here.
The one behind it is a "Ghostbuster" ,its a mix of coconut liqueur ,chocolate syrup ,whipped cream and I believe some Absolut vanilla vodka.
The strongest one on the the menu is "The Banshee" A mix of Irn Bru soda ,Aftershock and Absinthe ...It kinda tastes like cough medicine and hits pretty hard... :).
There seems to be a Horror Festival happening with most nights of October having something interesting happening here.
The bar has many ghost story's and is apparently the most haunted pub in Scotland.
Some of the other rooms to be found while wandering the labyrinth this is the pool room.
Bar 13 is available to hire for bands or various theatrical performances. There are various shows here throughout the week.
Some spooky headless horseman art.
This is the gents toilets...Hear no evil, see no evil ,smell no evil... :)
One last round of cocktails and its time to head home.
