Hey Folks
I decided to try making another video for this HIVE Music Festival on this new account.
Things here in the UK are not to good for musicians right now.Ithought by the end of September we would be allowed to organise live music events here but it looks like all live music events have been pushed back to 2021.
It has been a hard year for all of us but I feel like musicians have been hit particularly hard.
So this weekly festival is really god send for us and I fel Ishould keep taking part even if my videos dont always make much at least we have the sense of community here to keep driving us forward and to help stop us from sinking into a sea of depression.
So with all that said I want to play an old work song from 1888 for you guys.
This song is called Drill Ye Tarriers Drill ,its a work song which would have been sung by Irish labourers who came over to work on the railroads in the mid 19th century.
Tarriers were the labourers who drilled the holes for the dynamite to go in to blast the railroad tunnels.
The lyrics were written by a man named Thomas Casey and the music by Charles Connolly.
"Drill, Ye Tarriers, Drill"
Every morning at seven o'clock
There's twenty tarriers a workin at the rock
The boss comes along and he says, "Keep still
And come down heavy on the cast iron drill."
So drill, ye tarriers, drill
And drill, ye tarriers, drill
Oh it's work all day for the sugar in your tay
Down beyond the railway
So drill, ye tarriers, drill.
And blast,and fire...
The boss was a fine man down to the ground
And he married a lady six foot round
She baked good bread and she baked it well
But she baked it harder than the hobs of hell
So drill, ye tarriers, drill
And drill, ye tarriers, drill
Oh it's work all day for the sugar in your tay
Down beyond the railway
So drill, ye tarriers, drill
And blast , and fire...
Our new foreman big Jim McCann
By christ, He was a big mean man
Last week a premature blast went off
And a mile in the air went big John Goff.
So drill, ye tarriers, drill
And drill, ye tarriers, drill
Oh it's work all day for the sugar in your tay
Down beyond the railway
So drill, ye tarriers, drill
And blast , and fire...
Next payday comes around
John Goff a dollar short was found
When asked the reason came this reply
"You were docked for the time you were up in the sky!"
So drill, ye tarriers, drill
And drill, ye tarriers, drill
Oh it's work all day for the sugar in your tay
Down beyond the railway
So drill, ye tarriers, drill
And blast , and fire...
A tarriers life is work and sweat
There aint been a tarrier got rich yet
Its work and sweat then drill some more
We'll drill right down to the devil's door!
So drill, ye tarriers, drill
And drill, ye tarriers, drill
Oh it's work all day for the sugar in your tay
Down beyond the railway
So drill, ye tarriers, drill
And blast , and fire...
Every morning at seven o'clock
There's twenty tarriers a drillin at the rock
The boss comes along and he says, "Keep still
And come down heavy on the cast iron drill."
So drill, ye tarriers, drill
And drill, ye tarriers, drill
Oh it's work all day for the sugar in your tay
Down beyond the railway
So drill, ye tarriers, drill.
And blast , and fire...
And drill ye tarriers ,drill...
