One of the main river in Bangladesh named Padma.

Hey I am Ibrahim Hossain. I am from Bangladesh. Now I am standing just on the bank of one of the main river in Bangladesh named Padma. And you are seeing this river in my video. This is one of the main and biggest river in my country. This river has originated from a glacier called Gangotri in the Himalayas, it entered Bangladesh through India and fell into the Bey of Bengal. It seems that the river is not too wide. But if you see the bridge situated at far distance, you will be amazed to know that the bridge is 1.8 kilometer long.( The bridge name is Hardinge bridge. It was made by then British Govt. in 1912. And it was fully made by Iron. It was is still in service even after 100 years later. It was fully a railway bridge. And there are another road bridge just after the bridge.) Hence the width of the river is much. You are seeing the soil just after some meter of water. That is not the opposite bank of the river. It is just a char in the middle of the river. And after the soil there is water again.

This is winter season in Bangladesh. And it is now dry season. During this dry season, rivers in Bangladesh dry. Another main reason of drying the river of Padma is a dam on it in Indian portion. The dam name is Faracca dam. Before the dam was constructed the Padma was very fierce. The sound of its current could be heard from miles away from its bank. But now it is almost dead.

You will be surprised to know that Just after the independence of Bangladesh in 19771 there was almost 230-250 rivers in Bangladesh in its small area of 1,47,570 sq kilometer. But now there you can't find more than 30 river in whole Bangladesh. Small rivers have died and the big rivers are on the verge of their destruction.
